Israel said it would target tunnels that could infiltrate its territory after cease-fire talks failed to de-escalate the air war that had raged for 10 days.
The tunnels are a game changer, no doubt. In fact, as the tunnel attack proved on Thursday, Hamas invaded Israel on the ground, first. The Iron Dome missile defense system has protected Israel from most of the rockets, mortars and missiles from Gaza, but this is a whole different story.
“Amos Yadlin, director of Israel’s Institution for National Security Studies and former chief of military intelligence, similarly said in a radio interview earlier Thursday that the tunnel attack “clarified to those who were still wondering if it was right to conduct a ground move against certain points.””
