Ōkunoshima is now Rabbit Island.

Dave Cottrell’s insight:

There is a campground at Port Hardy, BC, Canada, on Vancouver Island, that used to be called “Sunny Sanctuary.”  We called it “Bunny Sanctuary,” because there were rabbits all over the place, just like in this article.  They would come up and sniff you to see if you had any food, sit and wait while you lit your fire to see what you were going to cook, and take food right out of your hand.  The place is now called Port Hardy RV Resort.
